Is Matthew McConaughey trying to become a REAL actor?
(Ian) Everyone’s favorite shirtless leaner, Matthew McConaughey stars in films being released in 2012 by such prestigious directors as William Friedkin, Jeff Nichols, Steven Soderbergh and or course Richard Linklater. Is McConaughey finally attempting to become an interesting actor or is this just an aberration? I’m all for an interesting McConaughey.
Anyone think he will continue making interesting films beyond 2012? Or is it back to the Rom-Com trash?

(Ian) I’m spending my Friday night alone with some red wine and Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1971 film THE CONFORMIST. Beat That!

A Top 10 of 2011 in May???
(Ian) A friend of the show and sometime guest panelist “Populist” Ian from Minnesota has thought long and hard and finally released his Top 10 Films of 2011. I urge you to head over to his blog There Will Be Words to view the list and his quick thoughts on the films. He gives a lot of love to a number of films that didn’t make many of The Flicksation Podcast regular panelists Top 10’s, but deserve mentions. (His list and my own only cross once, but remember BOTH IAN’S AGREE WAR HORSE STUNK!)
The Master Teaser Trailer
(Ian) Here’s the teaser trailer for my most anticipated film of 2012, Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER. I say give the Best Supporting Actor Oscar to Joaquin Phoenix NOW. (Probably Best Pic, Best Director for PTA and toss in Best Actor for Phillip Seymour Hoffman as well) I love that the teaser gives almost nothing away, yet has me salivating.
THE MASTER opens October 12th.
